CMIP7 data availability
Which models, experiments and variables are on ESGF so far.
Experiment lists from CMIP7-CVs with CV records from WCRP-universe, and baseline variables and experiment groups from the Data Request v1.2.2.5.

Ensembles
An ensemble member is one run of a model in an experiment. Members differ in their starting point, physics or forcing, which is recorded in labels such as r1i1p1f1. Running several members lets you separate a model's forced response from its internal variability, so the number of members matters for most analyses.
Modelling centres rarely publish every variable for every member. A common pattern is the baseline variables for the whole ensemble, more variables for a handful of members and high-frequency output for one. So the number of members you can use depends on the variables you need.
CanESM6-0-MR esm-hist
- Core depth
- The big number. The fewest members any published Core baseline request has. If the baseline variables are all you need, this is the ensemble you can count on. It also sets the cell's colour.
- of N
- Every member label published for the experiment, across all variables. It is the most members any variable can have, and most variables have fewer.
- A dot
- The model has published the experiment, but none of the Core baseline yet.

What the counts cannot tell you
- The index records how many members each variable has, not which ones. Two variables with 5 members may not share the same 5 runs.
- Every label counts as a member. A model that publishes runs with two forcing variants (
f1andf2) counts both, so check the labels before treating them as one ensemble. - A scenario member is not always continued from the historical member with the same label.

Climate REF
CMIP7 evaluations are now available
The Rapid Evaluation Framework (REF) runs a common set of diagnostics for CMIP7 output as they become available, so models can be compared against observations and each other. This is updated daily.
Climate Resource helps maintain the REF, working with the diagnostic providers PCMDI, ESMValTool and ILAMB.
