Malte was part of the core writing team for the IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report, the final element of an 8 year undertaking to summarise the state of knowledge of climate change, its widespread impacts and risks, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. It made clear that with warming of 1.1°C already observed, we have changes to the climate system that are unprecedented in recent human history occurring in every region of the world. It summarised key features evident in global GHG 1.5°C aligned pathways, including emissions peaking by 2025, and the rapid reduction in fossil fuel emissions, and increase in CCS required from this point on.
