The Climate Change Authority is undertaking wide ranging reviews of Australia's targets and policies, creating an opportunity for a new more effective response to the challenges of climate change and the transition to a net-zero global economy. In this submission we outline how rolling forward all country commitments to net-zero by around 5 years is key to delivering emissions pathways and cumulative emissions close to what is required to limit warming to 1.5°C. This could be a cornerstone of Australia’s approach to international climate negotiations and frame its own policy agenda as it bids to host COP in 2026.
