Karla Spiller

Senior Analyst

Karla is a Senior Analyst at Climate Resource, where she has worked since 2025. Her work centres on the analysis of Integrated Assessment Model scenario ensembles, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and national and global emissions pathways, and their associated temperature projections. She holds a Master of Energy Systems and a Bachelor of Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Melbourne, and brings extensive analytical experience across a wide range of industries.

Karla leads much of Climate Resource's work to develop and implement of methodologies for:

  • NDC Quantification:
    • Translation of country emissions projections into global emissions and global mean temperature rise using MAGICC.
    • Disaggregating country-level whole-of-economy emissions targets into a range of possible sectoral and gas-specific pathways for major emitters.
    • Comparison of country emissions targets with modelled country-specific contributions to global least-cost mitigation pathways, for major emitters.
  • Decarbonisation Futures:
    • Derivation of global sectoral transition pathways, and sub-sectoral and country-level pathways for major emitters, consistent with limiting warming to thresholds such as 1.5°C.
    • Analysis of the declining demand for coal and gas under global action to limit warming, and the implications for fossil fuel exporters such as Australia.
