Climate Resource is constructing the next generation of greenhouse gas concentration datasets for use as inputs by earth system models. This has two components. The first is the delivery of future greenhouse gas concentrations, consistent with a variety of climate futures, for use within Phase 7 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP7), part of the World Climate Research Programme (WRCP). This component builds off the work delivered to date. The second component is an update to the methods used to compile historical greenhouse gas concentration datasets. We are updating the methods used to compile such datasets so that they also include information from satellite observations, such as from the European Space Agency’s Climate Change Initiative. The satellite observations provide a unique spatial and temporal resolution, complementing the ground-based observation networks used to date. Dr. Zebedee Nicholls is leading the work, which has been funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) as part of the GHG Forcing For CMIP project of the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) (ESA Contract No. 4000146681/24/I-LR-cl).
