Around 125 countries have now announced or submitted emissions reduction targets or plans for 2035, covering nearly 80% of global emissions. Our modelling finds that if all current targets are met, projected warming would be around 1.8°C to 2°C, a major improvement from the 3°C pathways projected when the Paris Agreement was signed. Stronger finance and clear implementation roadmaps can support the achievement of the targets submitted. The findings show that the world is moving onto a lower-emissions path, although key countries are yet to submit 2035 targets. If targets submitted in the coming weeks continue this trend, it will set the world on a course to limit warming to below 2°C, and maintain options for closing the gap towards 1.5°C by 2100.
