Summary
We gather, analyse, and generate high-quality data to inform sustainable solutions and drive positive change. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Quality Intern to join our team and contribute to our important work.
As a Data Quality Intern, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of our climate change research datasets. You will work closely with our data scientists and research team to validate and analyse large datasets, identify inconsistencies and errors, and implement quality control measures. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in data management, data analysis, and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of climate change.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the research team to understand data requirements and objectives.
- Evaluate the quality and completeness of data, identifying and helping to resolve inconsistencies and errors.
- Conduct data validation and verification to ensure adherence to established standards, including helping to identify comparator data sets to be used in verification of Climate Resource generated data
- Collaborate with the data scientists to analyse data and generate meaningful insights.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of data documentation and metadata.
Qualifications and key requirements
- Have completed or be undertaking a postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in data manipulation and cleaning in Python using libraries such as pandas, xarray and numpy.
- Working knowledge of Excel for data manipulation Familiarity with data analysis and visualisation techniques.
- Basic knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Passion for climate change research.
Duration and Compensation
This is a paid internship position with a duration of two months with possible extension of up to 4 weeks commencing between 28 August and 18 September 2023, for a part time role of 0.5-0.8 FTE. The internship will provide valuable hands-on experience in data management and analysis within the field of climate change research. Compensation will be commensurate with experience but will range from AUD42,000 to AUD60,000 per annum on a FTE basis including superannuation, pro rata for the term of employment.
